Dear colleagues, endoscopic researchers, and friends of Endoscopy,

2008 was a steady and rewarding year for the journal. Alongside established features, such as Endoscopy Essentials and DDW Reports, we were very pleased to publish a special section on Barrett's eradication, in issue 12. This section was the brainchild of Jacques Bergman (The Netherlands) and Prateek Sharma (USA).

The Case Library, Endoscopy's online portal for unusual cases and technical notes, has developed over the past year and now holds approximately 600 papers. This section can be viewed online at www.thieme.de/endoscopy/uctn. The journal will now carry a page to inform readers about the most recent Case Library publications and to feature a “Case of the month” from this section (page 91).

Readers have commented favorably on our recent and continuing cooperation with Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE), whereby each journal carries a summary of the articles appearing in the current issue of the other journal.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the journal over the past year. We are very grateful to the authors who submitted their papers to Endoscopy, and an especially big thank you goes again to the Endoscopy reviewers, who are listed on page 97 of this issue.
