ESR STUDY OF A NEW ANTHRAQUINONE GLYCOSIDE

Abstract

The electron spin resonance absorption study of 1,3,5–trihydroxy–2,7–dimethyl–anthraquinone–8–O–α–D–glucopyranoside has been carried out at room temperature and at X–band. Measurements of ESR line shape, line width and g value, and magnetic susceptibility have been made; and percentage radical concentration has also been obtained. Kubo and Tomita theory on ESR line width has been utilized to compute the values of ESR line width parameters for the compound. The structural formula proposed for the anthraquinone glycoside has been modified so that it may have a free radical like structure.
