Abstract

A Chromatographie method of assay of colchicine is proposed. The liquid extract of colchicine is concentrated to a known volume, triturated with alumina (B.D.H.) to a fine powder, dried on a water bath and transferred to a column of silica gel (B.D.H.) and aluminum oxide (B.D.H.).

The alkaloid colchicine is eluted with pure acetone.

The eluent is evaporated completely and the residue is dried at 80 °C for half-an-hour and determined gravimetrically.
