Abstract

The essential oils of Myrica gale L. and Comptonia peregrina (L.) Cout. were examined chemically and found to contain 51 and 27 compounds respectively. The results were compared with the previously published information. It was found that except for some minor additions and quantitative differences the oil of C. peregrina compared favourably. The oil of M. gale showed some marked differences to the previously published results, particularly the presence of selin–11–en–4–ol (14.6 %) and alpha-bisabolol (5.0 %).
