Abstract

A rapid fluorometric method for the determination of sennosides (A and B) in tablets is described. The method is based on the reduction of sennosides by sodium dithionite in 0.05M borax to give 1,8 dihydroxy–3–carboxylic acid anthranol. The latter possesses activation and emission wavelengths at 388 and 496 nm, respectively. The mean percentage recovery of 27 tablets was found to be 100.3 + 2.30.
