Abstract

In male, adult rats, adrenalectomized immediately or 15 minutes after a dose of 6 minutes and 40 seconds (= 400 revolutions) in the Noble-Collip drum, a decrease with a half time of approximately 15 minutes for plasma corticosterone was found. However, a posttraumatic increase of liver tyrosine aminotransferase activity could be observed only in the animals, adrenalectomized 15 minutes after injury, whereas in rats, adrenalectomized immediately after it, this response was completely absent. From our results, a plasma corticosterone level of about 50-60 µgm/100 ml, lasting for at least 15 minutes seems to be necessary for enzyme activation.
