Abstract

The renal excretion of free and glucuronide conjugated Cortisol over a wide range of plasma Cortisol concentrations was studied in anesthetized dogs. The results indicate that the tubular reabsorption of free Cortisol reached a maximum when the filtered load was approximately 14 µg/min. The tubular maximum of free Cortisol was below 9 µg/min and the plasma threshold was about 10 µg/100 ml plasma. Cortisol glucuronide, which did not exhibit a tubular maximum or a plasma threshold, was handled by the canine kidney both by secretion and reabsorption.
