Abstract

After partial hepatectomy in rats a thyroid-dependent hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia were observed. Using disappearance of radioactive phosphorus from plasma to determine hormone status, data was obtained which indicated an increase in secretion of both calcitonin and parathyroid hormone during the early stages of liver regeneration. The possible involvement of such hormone release during injury is discussed.
