Significance

Microwave-assisted palladiumcatalyzed C3-arylation of 2(1H)-pyrazinones on solid supports was described. Thus, resin-bound pyrazinones 1 underwent cross-coupling with arylboronic acids 2 in the presence of copper(I) thiophene-2-carboxylate (CuTC) and Pd(PPh3)4 under microwave irradiation (300 W) at 35 ˚C for one hour with simultaneous cooling (1st coupling). After extraction of the coupling product, the resin beads were again subjected to the same coupling-extraction protocol (2nd coupling). The C3-arylated pyrazinones 3 were obtained from the combined extracts in 0-63% yield (41 examples).
