Significance

Platencin targets a broad range of bacteria including drug-resistant strains such as MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), vancomycin-resistant enterococci and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Platencin possesses dual activity and inhibits the fatty acids synthesis pathway in bacteria by binding to both the enzymes FabH and FabF.
