Significance

Platinum nanoparticles were prepared in the [Zn4O(btb)2]8 {MOF-177, btb = 1,3,5-[-OC(O)]3C6H3} host lattice (Pt@MOF-177) by gas-phase loading of MOF-177 with [Me3PtCp’], followed by reduction with 100 bar of hydrogen at 100 ˚C for 24 h. Pt@MOF-177 catalyzed the solvent- and base-free oxidation reaction of cinnamyl and benzylic primary alcohols at room temperature with air to afford the corresponding aldehydes with 50-99% conversion (9 examples). The TON of this oxidation was up to 968.
