Significance

Pumiliotoxin is one of the decahy­droquinoline alkaloids isolated from the skin extracts of several amphibians as well as ants. The key step in the synthesis depicted is a cyclocondensation of the cyclohexenone D with (R)-phenylglycinol (E) to give the lactam F as a single dia­stereoisomer.
