Significance

Platencin is isolated from Streptomycis platensis MA7339. Platencin combats methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Platencin structurally resembles platensimycin and inhibits the fatty acids synthesis pathway in bacteria by binding with the initiation- condensing and elongation-condensing enzymes FabH and FabF/B.
