Significance

The Sonogashira coupling reaction of aryl iodides 1 with terminal alkynes 2 was achieved by using Pd/C as a catalyst without a ligand, copper salt, or amine. The reaction was carried out in the presence of 0.4 mol% Pd of 10% Pd/C and Na3PO4˙12H2O under an argon atmosphere to give the corresponding internal alkynes 3 in 38-96% yield (20 examples).
