Correction: Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen’s Strasbourg Years (1872–1879): W.C. Röntgen – Two Decades before the Discovery of X-rays (with GPX Track “Röntgen in Strasbourg”)
Article in several languages: English | deutschAuthors
In the above-mentioned publication, a quotation was accidentally not marked in the section under the heading “August Kundt (1839–1894): teacher, mentor, colleague, friend”
The correct sentence is:
The special characteristic of Kundt’s research drive was the “constant search for new, unexpected effects” [73].
In the paragraphs under the heading “1872–75: Lecturer in Strasbourg” and the heading “1876–79: Return to Strasbourg – Röntgen’s second professorship”, a source was added to one sentence in each case.
The corrected version is:
The newly founded university, named after Kaiser Wilhelm in 1877, was funded heavily by Berlin, for reasons of power and cultural policy, using French reparations payments[46]. He also knew his tireless, creative, and innovative boss, who did not want an “extraordinarius perpetuus” but instead considered this position a step in the career of a physicist on the way to full professorship [25, 73].
In addition, two citations in the bibliography were corrected and one source was added.
The correct version is:
[25] Gutachten von Kundt über E. Cohn vom 2.9.1884. Archives d’Alsace, site de Strasbourg. ABR AL 103 paq. 7 No. 245.
[46] Wolff SL. La mise en place de la physique. L’ère Kundt et Kohlrausch de 1872 à 1875“. In: Crawford E, Olff-Nathan J, Hrsg. La Science sous Influence, L’université de Strasbourg enjeu des conflits franco-allemands 1872–1945. Strasbourg: Nuée Bleue; 2005: 49–62
[73] Wolff SL. August Kundt (1839–1894): Die Karriere eines Experimentalphysikers. Physis 1992; 29: 403–446
