2024: ESGE’s diamond jubilee year!

2024 marks the 60th year since the ESGE was founded, on June 6, 1964. To celebrate this important milestone, we are planning a series of events, projects, and publications for the ESGE community.

An ESGE Jubilee Committee has been hard at work, led by Professor Thierry Ponchon. Projects already in fruition include 12 special ESGE Jubilee editorials in the Endoscopy journal. This month the editorial focuses on ESGE and its publications. Over the past decade, ESGE has developed a rigorous, evidence-based, and reproducible standard for ESGE publications. ESGE is an amalgam of 41 national gastroenterology/endoscopy member societies; thus, ESGE publications must be of sufficiently high quality to be either directly accepted as the equivalent to the local standards of our member societies or to influence the local standard of care and thereby standardize practice within our large and diverse ESGE community. Today, ESGE publications cover the entire spectrum of guidance and training in GI endoscopy. Discover more by reading the article in full on page 151–153 in this issue of Endoscopy.

Other jubilee plans include a webinar planned for December 2024, plus, as a special highlight of the jubilee year we are planning a practical and theoretically oriented intensive endoscopy training opportunity for our ESGE young talents. Full details of these jubilee events will be announced at ESGE Days.
