Nasenausfluss ist ein häufiger Vorstellungsgrund in der Kleintierpraxis. Die Anamnese und das Signalement können bereits einige Hinweise auf mögliche Grundursachen geben. Auch zwischen den Spezies gibt es nicht zu vernachlässigende Unterschiede der Ätiologie des Nasenausflusses. Dieser Artikel geht im Speziellen auf den Nasenausfluss der Katze ein.

  • Atemgeräusche sind oft ein früher Hinweis auf eine Erkrankung der oberen Atemwege und sind daher nicht als normal einzustufen.

  • Nasenausfluss ist nicht nur ein Symptom von Katzenschnupfen.

  • Die Qualität des Nasenausflusses lässt keine Rückschlüsse auf die Grunderkrankung zu.

  • Eine bakteriologische Untersuchung des Nasenausflusses ist nicht sinnvoll, da lediglich eine bakterielle Sekundärinfektion nachgewiesen wird.

  • Eine nicht zielgerichtete antibakterielle Therapie fördert Resistenzen.

  • Eine multimodale Diagnostik ist notwendig.
