We appreciate the letter from members of the chest radiology workshop of the German Roentgen Society concerning the scan range of CT examinations for diagnosis of pulmonary embolism [Comment on: Diagnostic Reference Levels for Diagnostic and Interventional X-Ray. Procedures in Germany: Update and Handling, October 2019]. This gives us the opportunity to address central aspects of the use of diagnostic reference levels (DRL) on this specific issue once again in somewhat more detail.
