Summary

There are many noninvasive and minimally invasive therapeutic modalities available for use in cosmetic dermatology, each having its own place in the aesthetic armamentarium. Initial treatments were developed slowly over decades. More recently, an influx of resources into the field has caused the pace of product development to surge. The goals of aesthetically inclined patients, historically out of reach without surgical intervention, may now be achievable through the use of multiple modalities in the dermatologist’s office. This has led to the practice of combining treatments for delivery in sequence or on the same day in an attempt to efficiently maximize outcomes. Furthermore, as downtime is a significant concern to patients, by performing therapies during a single visit, their recovery may be carried out in unison, shortening the overall recovery time. Although combination therapy is common in aesthetic practices, many of these regimens have been derived from clinical experience. Regardless, publications are accumulating to support many of these clinically established combination approaches. This chapter will discuss both published and experience-based recommendations on delivering combination noninvasive and minimally invasive aesthetic treatments. Although some background will be given, in-depth explanations of the mechanisms of action behind individual treatment modalities, as well as expanded discussions of their individual uses and techniques, will be better found in other chapters.
