Abstract

Four commercial samples of myrtle oil (Myrtus communis L.) were investigated by gas-liquid chromatography in connection with functional group analysis and by gas-liquid chromatography combined with mass spectrometry. β-pinene, myrcene, phellandrene, limonene, γ-terpinene, p-cymene, linalool, linalyl acetate, β-caryophyllene, α-terpineol and methyl eugenol were identified; the presence of earlier reported constituents (α-pinene, camphene, dipentene, l:8-cineol, myrtenyl acetate, myrtenol, nerol and geraniol) was confirmed.
