Abstract

Earlier workers have reported lycorine or pseudolycorine or both from Hippeastrum equistre growing in different regions. In the present work we have reported the isolation of a third alkaloid tazettine from the same material growing abundantly in and around the University campus. Our inference is that the chemical constituents are profoundly influenced by the geographic distribution of the plant material.
