Abstract

Proximadiol is a C15H2O2 dicyclic sesquiterpenediol separated from. the unsaponifiable matter fraction of the petroleum ether extract of Cymbopogon proximus. This compound proved to have unique antispasmodic characteristics, and could be used for the propulsion of renal and ureteric calculi.

For the industrial application of the plant in the field of Pharmaceuticals, a micro analytical method for the quantitative estimation of this active principle in the plant matter and in any of its pharmaceutical preparations is discussed in detail.
